Minimize the Risk to Losing Power to Critical Medical Equipment

CPS Energy’s Critical Care Program attempts to minimize potential risk to customers who use electrically-operated medical equipment in their homes and/or whose physicians have verified that continued electric and/or gas service is critical to the occupant’s health. While we can’t promise to maintain continuous service at all times due to storm damage, accidents, etc., we do attempt to minimize potential risks.

When a customer is enrolled in the program, the account is flagged with codes and messages. Reflective decals are added to the meter and transformer which aid CPS Energy personnel in the timely restoration of power in the event of storms, accidents or maintenance.  To enroll in the program, customers and their physician must complete an application and submit it to CPS Energy.

Customers interested in utilizing the Critical Care Assistance Program can print and complete an application, visit one of our customer service centers, or (210) 353-2222 to enroll.

Proper record maintenance and management is vital to ensure that well-informed decisions are made regarding customers on this program. Therefore, it is necessary to re-enroll in the program by completing a new application when a customer moves to a new residence. This will help us to ensure that our customers continue to receive the benefits of the program.

Customers who participate in the program will have their accounts re-evaluated on a semi-annual basis to determine continued eligibility. To facilitate the re-enrollment process, CPS Energy will mail a new application to the customer’s residence.  The completed application must be received from the patient’s physician to re-enroll in the program.
