Mauermann Road Substation and Transmission Line Project
CPS Energy is proposing to construct the new Mauermann Road substation with power transformers and a 138 kV electric transmission line to connect this substation to the existing Braunig-to-Toyota transmission line. The Mauermann Road substation will be located just south of the new Texas A&M campus and north of Mauermann Road on the west side of the Union Pacific Railroad. The new substation is illustrated by the solid blue square on the adjacent map.
The new substation will be designed with one 138/13.8 kV 40MVA transformer unit and one switchgear unit lineup with the capability of supplying up to four distribution circuits. The new substation site will allow for up to three additional future transformer units. The transmission line will be 138 kV looped line on steel pole structures. The new transmission line is illustrated by the dashed red line on the adjacent map.
Why Is This Project Needed?
This substation is needed to supply the projected loads of the new Verano Development, Texas A&M University and other future growth in this area. The Verano Development will be an 800-acre master planned university community with integrated residential and retail areas. The Texas A&M University campus will be built on a 694-acre site just south of the Verano Development site. Construction on the campus is expected to begin in March 2010. Construction on the substation site is expected to begin in June 2010. The completion of the Mauermann Road Project is scheduled for December 2011.
