Austin Rd. - Kirby Transmission Line Rebuild Project
CPS Energy is planning to rebuild an existing power line between our Austin Rd substation and IH-35. The project will involve a complete rebuild of the line including new foundations, new structures (poles) and electrical conductor (wire). The power line route will be about 3 miles long.
This project is needed by February 2012 to maintain electrical reliability. Rebuilding of the aging transmission line will improve the reliability and safety between the Austin Road and Kirby substations.
Demolition and construction of the new line will require physical access to the new pole locations along the CPS Energy easement. Construction is estimated to occur between October 2011 and January 2012. Area residents will be notified in advance, via digital billboards, of any required road closures. Along with construction activities, property owners along the line may see surveying, soil testing and environmental analysis taking place. We will contact landowners directly affected by the construction of the proposed power line and will strive to minimize disruptions to landowners and their properties.
