CPS Energy Remains Committed to Efficient and Green Energy

12/07/2010

With parties at the United Nations Climate Change Conference addressing global action steps for climate change, including local solutions to reduce energy consumption, CPS Energy is working to lead the greater San Antonio area towards increased energy efficiency. The municipal utility’s plans calls for a reduction of 771 megawatts at the end of this decade, the inclusion of 1,500 megawatts of renewable energy among the company’s electric generation resources and more.

CPS Energy offers local solutions to reduce energy use by providing incentives and rebates designed to: encourage residents to purchase energy-efficient appliances; plant trees which improves air quality, too; improve residential heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems as well as insulation; increase the use of compact fluorescent lights (CFL) and programmable thermostats; expand lighting retrofits and other commercial programs; and more.

“We should all be more thoughtful about how we use energy. That is the most cost efficient and guaranteed way to decrease our carbon footprint,” said CPS Energy President and CEO Doyle Beneby. “Efficiency, conservation and sustainability are critical to making an impact on carbon reduction for our thriving community.

Here at CPS Energy, we are also committed to producing more green energy.  We have a substantial investment in wind farms and we have begun to ramp up our solar capacity as well—all while working to maintain affordable costs."
