Join CPS Energy and Local Restaurant Association for Dinner by Candlelight

07/21/2011

CPS Energy and the San Antonio Restaurant Association (SARA) are highlighting successful ingredients for energy conservation through a new event - Dinner by Candlelight. On Thursday, July 28, from 5 to 8 p.m., local residents and visitors are encouraged to dine at participating eateries that will voluntarily turn off all nonessential lights and equipment for the evening. The goal is to raise energy conservation awareness in the foodservice industry during hours that energy is in peak demand locally on a typical summer evening.

“Dinner by Candlelight is the restaurant industry’s way of demonstrating support for conservation during these critical peak demand times,” said Ramon Gonzales, energy solutions manager with CPS Energy. “So, what a great way to show them and your significant other some love by enjoying a romantic meal.”

The following restaurants are participating in the event:

  • Barbaresco, 9715 San Pedro Ave.
  • Casa Rio, 430 E. Commerce St.
  • El Chaparral, 2838 N Loop 1604 E and 15103 Bandera Rd. (Helotes, TX)
  • El Mirador, 722 S. St. Mary’s
  • Nicha’s Comida Mexicana, 3119 Roosevelt and 5059 NW Loop 410
  • Pico de Gallo, 111 S. Leona St.
  • The Republic of Texas, 526 E. River Walk St.

Some of these restaurants have initiated energy-saving measures. Nicha’s Comida Mexicana installed a new energy efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system at its northwest location, receiving rebates from CPS Energy. Casa Río and Pico de Gallo both took advantage of a commercial energy audit and thermo scan.
