Edward Kelley Confirmed As Trustee for CPS Energy Board

05/20/2011

Former USAA Real Estate Company President and CEO Edward Kelley will join the CPS Energy Board of Trustees on May 23. San Antonio City Council voted unanimously in favor of Kelley, confirming the CPS Energy Board’s nomination.

Kelley will fulfill the remainder of Charles Foster’s term, which expires on January 31, 2012. He will serve with current Board Chair Derrick Howard and trustees Nora Chavez and Dr. Homer Guevara. The San Antonio native applied to the Board as a representative for the northwest quadrant. Kelley, who sat at the helm of USAA Real Estate Company for nearly 17 years before retiring in 2005, brings decades of management, investment and real estate experience to the Board. He is also an active community member, serving a wide range of organizations, including Haven for Hope, the San Antonio Area Foundation and two chambers of commerce.

“As a native San Antonian, I know CPS Energy has always been a critical part of this community. So, I am honored to join the Board,” said Kelley. “CPS Energy is important to all of the ratepayers and contributes heavily to the economic development and growth of our service area. That makes this board position a very important assignment.”

The Board of Trustees sets general and specific policy guidelines for CPS Energy’s management and staff to implement.  The Board includes one representative for each of San Antonio’s four geographical quadrants and the Mayor who is an ex-officio member. Board meetings are held on the last Monday of each month at 1:30 p.m. in CPS Energy’s Main Office at 145 Navarro.

CPS Energy is the nation's largest municipally owned natural gas and electric utility, providing service to approximately 717,000 electric customers and 325,000 natural gas customers in and around the city of San Antonio. The utility ranks among the nation's lowest-cost energy providers while ranking number 1 in wind-energy capacity among municipally owned utilities.
